FISSTA ESCALATE CAMPAIGN FOR
EVICTIONS TO BE LIFTED AND THE GRANTING OF SECURITY OF TENURE
Final touches are being put to plans for the first of our Regional
Public Meetings to be held in St Mary's Hall Killarney in which the
National Association of Regional Game Councils and FISSTA will
jointly address their members grievances to the elected politicians
of Kerry. All members are asked to attend and show their solidarity
with the Laune, Flesk and other clubs in Donegal who have been
evicted from their waters.
It was another week of more talk from Government but to date no
action was forthcoming from the Dept of the Marine for the removal
of the dreaded evictions or the granting of security of tenure for
the state leased waters especially relating to our affiliates in
Donegal and Kerry.
However, to date Monday 18th
February, our Secretary Tommy Lawton has not received this long
awaited notice to meet our Executive delegates, but when Minister
Fahey was confronted with the wrath of the Kerry anglers on Friday
15th in Tralee, they were told once again that the notice was in the
post.
At the rally organised by the Kerry Anglers Federation in Killarney
on Sat 16th 2002 in which a huge crowd turned out Chairman Noel Carr
in his message of support for the clubs evicted from Laune and Flesk
and "pledged to eradicate this virus of state landlordism now
in effect in Donegal and Kerry. Treatment such as this is an example
of what is facing every club in the country as their leases fall
due. This new policy of eviction was spawned and nurtured by the CEO
of the SWRFB and NRFB with Government funds designated for
cooperation and partnership with anglers". |
